Halloween Decoration Ideas

Halloween is one of my favourite times of year. Although our on-going flat renovation means I have had to keep the decorations to the bare minimum this year, I love the thought of still adding small, scary, touches to mark the occasion. Our main focal point is the skull as shown above - it is hollow at the top so it can even hold chocolates to hand out during trick or treat! For those of you able to decorate fully I have rounded up my favourite ideas below:

I'd love to know; will you be decorating at all?

Top Tips: How to Stay Happy when Renovating

As you may know if you follow me on Instagram, I have recently moved into a flat and am currently in the process of a complete renovation. Living in a space which is being completely renovated can be stressful and overwhelming but as this is one of the most exciting projects I have ever taken on, I am really trying to stay positive and enjoy the experience! I've put together my top five tips for staying positive during a renovation below:

1) Have one completely finished space

If possible, have one area completely finished. For me I chose to finish the bathroom first as it was the room which needed the least work. A simple paint, tidy, and purchase of some soft furnishings, and it was just as I hoped. Of course this doesn't need to apply to an entire room - it could be as simple as setting up a bedside table just the way you like it - as it is more the principle of having somewhere perfect amidst the chaos.

2) Make a plan

Have a clear idea of what exact work needs doing and write this down. I made huge lists of the work required in each room when the renovation first started which included even the tiny details. Even if I've only done something small such as paint a doorframe, crossing this off the list gives a real sense of achievement and makes it feel as though great progress is being made!

3) Enlist some help

Be it a friend, family member, partner or colleague, ask them to come and help! I have been carrying out the renovations with my partner and it is just amazing to have his support. Tasks such as painting go so much faster and there is something really lovely about stepping back together and admiring your handiwork.

4) Visualise the end result

Having a picture of what you are working towards is a great motivator. For me this is just imagining the rooms (and entire flat!) perfectly finished and casting my eye over catalogues for soft furnishing ideas. However to take it a step further I think this guide on A Beautiful Mess on how to draw a floor plan would be so lovely to create!

5) Take a break and get outside

Tempting as it is to keep powering through, sometimes it is far more beneficial to get out of the house and take a break from it all. If it all gets too overwhelming then a quick walk or a trip to the coffee shop can be just what I need to get back on track!

Has anyone else ever taken on a renovation project? I would love to know your tips!

Hello Brighton!

Peek of our room at Hilton Brighton - complete with Radley 'A dog is a girls best friend' bag!
Me and my partner enjoyed a trip to Brighton at the weekend to celebrate a friend's wedding and also our first anniversary together. It's such a fun place to go and we had the best time eating at Infinity Foods, shopping in the Lanes and walking along the seafront! I just love the relaxed atmosphere and we were lucky enough to have gorgeous weather all day to top it off.

Decorating Idea: Wall Decals

I was recently looking for something to hang or display on the otherwise blank walls of our flat, when my partner mentioned the possibility of wall decals. This trend had completely bypassed me but looking online it seems that there are some great pieces to be found. My personal favourites come from a company called Blik who, in my opinion, have the most amazing and original pieces out there. They really are works of art and I love that they offer such an affordable option to make a real statement! Their 'Ambition Killed The Cat' image (above) is one that I plan on placing above the living room sofa to add a fun element to the room. I'm also super excited about the thought of using their 'Tree Surface Skin' (below) in white and grey to liven up our desk in the future!

Have you ever used wall decals? I would love to know!

Beauty Lies Within - Self Confidence

Scrolling through my Instagram feed a short while ago I came across the most beautiful poem by Erin Hanson. It was a real confidence boost and I immediately copied it into my diary for a day when I might need to hear the message again. It began with the four lines:

"Never trust a mirror
For a mirror always lies
It makes you think that what you're worth
Can be seen from the outside..."

I love taking pride in my appearance and think there's something special about spending time getting ready for a date night or a special event. Nonetheless it is so important to remember that we have so much more to offer the world than outside appearances! The quote 'beauty lies within' is a classic for a reason, after all.

Deliciously Ella; a Recipe Book Review

I was relatively late to experience the wonder that is Deliciously Ella, and so by the time I discovered her she had a fully formed blog, app, and a cookbook on the way. As with many others I totally fell in love with her recipes and writing style, and I purchased her first recipe book as quickly as I could! It has quickly become one of my absolute favourites and I really would recommend it to anyone looking for healthy but wonderful meal ideas. I am certainly not a fantastic cook but have managed to make cacao smoothies, warm carrot salads and some seriously great cakes using it! The recipes are really plentiful and I am always super excited to try new ones out.

Has anyone else reading purchased or used this recipe book? I would love to know your thoughts!

Blueberry and Banana Breakfast Smoothie Bowl

I figured there was no better way to kick off my new and improved blog design (thank you KayBrighton!) than with a scrumptious Smoothie Bowl! Until a few months ago I was rarely eating breakfast - let alone blending one up every morning - but now I just can't get enough of these! To make this lovely creation you simply need the following:

1/2 cup of Blueberries
1/2 cup of Raspberries
1 Banana
1 cup Almond Milk (I use the Rude Health version)
3 Dates (Medjool if you can but otherwise the dried ones will do - I get mine from Holland and Barratt)
1 tblsp Raw Organic Honey

Pop it all in a blender and go! If you feel like something a little more filling you can add extras such as a tablespoon of oats and / or chia seeds which will make your breakfast extra hearty. Additionally if you prefer to drink your smoothies rather than eat them with a spoon you can simply adjust the quantity of almond milk used. That is the beauty in this dish; perfectly customisable! Enjoy!
